That means once you define the width of an element to be 100px wide, it will always be 100 pixels wide - whether you add a 20px padding or not. This also takes away headaches of setting up columns with padding, since a 50% wide element will still be 50% of the parent container’s width regardless of padding. Bonus points for strong support on all modern browsers.

/* apply a natural box layout model to all elements */

Nifty tool that helps make grids & guides behave nicely.

Dealing with grids in Photoshop is a pain
With GuideGuide, it doesn’t have to be. Pixel accurate columns, rows, midpoints, and baselines can be created based on your document or marquee with the click of a button. Frequently used guide sets can be saved for repeat use. Grids can use multiple types of measurements. Best of all it’s free.

We needed the iframe to expand beyond the default 500px to look proper (we’re using 830px for our image-based posts) and realized there was little to no documentation on how to do so.

After a lot of head scratching and researching, we were able to get it to work - there’s 2 parts to the equation where the first uses jQuery to swap out part of the iframe src url which Tumblr uses to dictate the width of the photoset content, and the second where you use jQuery to resize the height of the iframe upon load.

The following code swaps out the default 500px in the iframe src url string to 830px. If your post width is 750px, you’ll just need to swap out the ‘830’ with ‘750’.

$(".photoset").each(function() {
	var newSrc = $(this).attr("src").replace('500','830');
	$(this).attr("src", newSrc);
});

If you refresh your site, you’ll notice that the iframe that hosts the photoset is now the proper width. Only problem is that if you have a lot of images in the set, the bottom part will most likely have been cut off. To remedy this, you’ll need to past in this following code to resize upon the page loading. Resize script via the always awesome CSSTricks.

$(function(){
var iFrames = $('.photoset');

function iResize() {
	for (var i = 0, j = iFrames.length; i < j; i++) {
 iFrames[i].style.height = iFrames[i].contentWindow.document.body.offsetHeight + 'px';}
	}

	if ($.browser.safari || $.browser.opera) {
 iFrames.load(function(){
 setTimeout(iResize, 0);
 });

 for (var i = 0, j = iFrames.length; i < j; i++) {
 var iSource = iFrames[i].src;
 iFrames[i].src = '';
 iFrames[i].src = iSource;
 }
	} else {
 iFrames.load(function() {
 this.style.height = this.contentWindow.document.body.offsetHeight + 'px';
 });
	}
});

That’s all! Happy Tumbling :)

HTML5 Advent Calendar
